  17. <p>     Visiting Southern California with the kids? Obviously no
  18. such vacation would be complete without a trip to that mecca
  19. of childhood fantasy: Sonyland!
  20. </p>
  21. <p>     That is the working name of a tourist attraction being
  22. planned by Sony Corp., the owner since 1989 of Columbia
  23. Pictures Entertainment. The proposed Sonyland would be a direct
  24. challenge to the theme parks of the Walt Disney Co. and MCA's
  25. Universal Studios, which serve their owners not only as profit
  26. producers but as persuasive corporate advertising as well.
  27. Sonyland will feature the products of its parent company and
  28. its motion-picture subsidiary. The opening date, location and
  29. specific amusements of Sonyland remain a mystery. One of the
  30. rumored attractions: a ride featuring the pirate ship from
  31. Columbia's forthcoming movie Hook, a Steven Spielberg sequel
  32. to Peter Pan.
